Public space of Lithuania reacted to one more ‘not hesitation’ of Russian politicians to interfere with our internal affairs. This time Moscow Communists of Duma, whose representatives of the fraction did not miss a chance and wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis with a disgust in Lithuanian courts that instigated criminal proceedings against the former leader of the Party ‘Frontas’ Algirdas Paleckis for spying in favour of Russia. V. Pranckietis was incited to protect Lithuania from dishonour and A. Paleckis was called a prominent political and social activist, patriot and internationalist. This is how members of the Communist party fraction spoke up   with a heavy hand.
Making no speculations about the prospect of correspondence on this topic (Head of the Parliament forwarded this letter to the Committee on National Security and Defense of the Seimas and Committee of Foreign Affairs) it is also a possibility to discuss the ‘free’ style of Russian politics free of everything (for instance, decency), especially since according to the portal Delfi.lt that interviewed the politician Arvydas Anušauskas regarding this precedent, Moscow not only tries to write our history instead of us, but it ‘sees’ the occupation of Lithuania for us. According to the member of the Seimas, the most adequate reaction to this is no reaction at all. Just ignorance.
Ignorance is not always possible. As the former representative of Czechia to Moscow Petr Kolář told (relations of Moscow especially chilled after the decision of Prague to remove the monument to the Russian general Ivan Safonov in one square of the city and it is likely not by change accused of being recruited by namely Czech Intelligence) when he went to Moscow in autumn 2010, the West did not believe that despite aggression against Georgia, he could have deals with Moscow – Barrack Obama, President of the US announced about the concept of recharging the relationship, the European Commission (EC) suggested cooperation by making modernization of Russian economy, foreign delegations went to Moscow one by one trying to find some possibilities. Everybody was living with great expectations that there will be no aggression again. Unfortunately, in 2014 this happened in Ukraine and since then everything went just bad – Syria followed, now Libya added.
According to the diplomat, he got an impression that President of Russia Vladimir Putin finally made up his mind that liberalization of relations, harmony with democracies, did not meet his interests. His type is confrontation and complication of the international situation by way of a continuous and aggressive participation.
A little bit about the content of the ‘aggressive participation’. When an evacuation group of Ukrainians received a confirmation of the regime by way of ‘silence’ in order to take away a Ukrainian fighter, who stepped on the explosive device on 13 July and was blasted, although they were wearing all identification marks and white helmets, they could not reach the body because Russian occupation forces opened a fire also from heavy machine guns. The group drew off, however the combat medic continued moving forward and was killed. Moreover, the occupants took his body. An insidious killing of the medic was like an example of how occupation forces were ready to comply with international standards of war in the conflict taking place in the east of Ukraine.
Let’s go back to the topic that there ‘are no’ Russian soldiers in the east of Ukraine: during the Forum held by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on 2 July the Lieutenant General Leonid Golopatiuk, Head of International Cooperation and Verification Center of Ukraine informed that military groups formed by Moscow in separatist Donetsk and Luhansk ‘People’s Respublics’ comprised about 35 thousand soldiers, 481 tank, 914 armed fighting vehicles, 720 pieces of artillery and 202 missile launching systems.
A little more about a cynical war without any rules that was started not on the initiative of Ukraine. A journalist Petro Shuklinov disclosed one episode about the Lieutenant General Dmitry Minayev, Head of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Department of Counterintelligence taken over by personal revenge to Ukrainians for liquidation of his friend Yuriy Chercashin (with whom he participated in wars in Chechnya, (www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2953435161405418&id=100002168908468; the summary was published on censor.net.ua/n3194847). Colonel General Maksym Shapoval, Head of Special forces of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine planned and carried out raids on the back of the enemy, the unit under his control liquidated the colonel Y. Cherkasin from the Special forces unit in the occupied Donbas on 7 June 2017. D. Minayev hurled all efforts to kill M. Shapoval. 20 days later his car was blasted in Kiev. The bomb was placed by Oleg Shutov, a mercenary of FSB who fled to Donetsk after a murderous attempt.
In 2017 Special services of Russia under the command of V. Putin started sending attack groups to Ukraine and Ukrainians in response to that started liquidating them. A colonel Olexandr Kharaberush from the Ukrainian Security Service was one of the most successful ‘hunters’ of agents, under whose command over 200 agents were arrested, after which he became a priority target of FSB. It had recruited some action agents and paid 15 thousand US dollars to one of them – Yulia Praslova from Donetsk. Russians also attempted to kill a legendary Russian agent catcher, an intelligence General Kirill Budanov. A group of diversionists tried to blast him on 4 April 2019, however when they placed the explosives, they exploded and one of them, the Russian citizen Alexey Komarychev, was seriously wounded. The Ukrainian Сounter Intelligence followed hot steps and arrested his accomplice  – also a Russian citizen Timur Dzotov. Both action agents were acting     under passports of citizens of Kirghizia.
Sadly, Russian terrorists sentenced in Ukraine quite often are being exchanged for Ukrainians imprisoned in Russia, the actual hostages of the Kremlin, for instance, Y. Praslova now lives in Moscow. According to P. Shuklinov, D. Minaнev’s department continues the practice of terror attacks in Ukraine and the EU.
The investigation of the British investigation group , German magazine Der Spiegel and Russian online portal The Insider disclosed the name of the killer, who killed Chechen Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, who came from Georgia in Berlin on 15 August last year in the middle of the day, although the German prosecutor’s office that arrested him right away, did not disclose specific details. Much later it indicated that he was acting in Berlin under the order of the Russian government.
According to investigators, he was Vadim Krasikov, who was serving in special unit of FSB, who arrived to Berlin with a fake passport issued for Vadim Sokolov. After this fact was found out, they managed to reach some other persons, who also were likely to be connected with Russian special services; at least three of them were suspected of being involved in contract killing abroad. Investigators of are convinced that the name and personal details of one of them, namely Roman Davydov, have been fabricated, although in July 2019 a person under this name got a foreign passport. Until then no such person existed under details found on the State databases of Russia. This did not prevent him from receiving a Schengen visa allowing free traveling in the EU on the same day when V. Krasikov received it under a fabricated passport.
Trips of ‘Davydov’ in Europe on the eve of the murder were according to the same algorithm as of the murder (according to investigators, preparation for the operation of killing was planned not later than in March 2019) – at the beginning of August he went to Paris, from there to Poland and finally to Berlin. Investigators failed to find out his role in the operation, however it is most probable that the killer was acting not alone in the capital of Germany, because in one day he managed to get a bicycle, electric scooter of the model that was not sold in Germany, a weapon and also knew when and where the victim would be. The investigators managed to find one passport of ‘Davydov’ issued in the name of Roman Nikolayev, that he used for flying to Prague in summer 2015. On that day five more people were in the capital of Czechia with passports, the owners of which do not exist on any Russian databases, from which the investigators conclude that all of them were officers of special services of Russia. Analogous passports were found at the place of three suspects in contract killing of the former field commander Chechen Abdulwahid Edilgiriev killed in 2016 in Istanbul.
Before the voyage to Europe V. Krasikov was trained in the base of FSB unit and constantly called his current and former officers of the unit, one of them was Head of the veteran fund Eduard Bendersky. According to the data of he is the father-in-law of the Russian hacker Maksim Yakubets that the United States promised 5 million USD reward for the arrest of him. Bellingcat thinks that E. Benderski represented the Colonel General Alexander Tikhonov, Head of the FSB Special Forces in this ‘deal of Berlin’. This is the way how nicely they are all related to each other.
After the Normandy Four summit in Paris the President of Russia to the question of journalists about killing of Z. Khangoshvili told that they were talking about the environment of bandits, where anything might happen, the victim was a brutal striker, during one campaign of whom as if 98 people were killed. V. Putin did not specify what kind of campaign it was, just emphasized that Russia had several times asked to extradite the bandit and killer Z. Khangoshvili to Russia, however the request was denied. Later representatives of Germany contradicted this statement of the Russian leader. According to them Moscow had never addressed Berlin for that.
On 12 July Europe was commemorating the tragedy of the Bosnian War. On that day in 1995 military troops of Serbia in Srebrenica killed at last 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and teenagers. Then it was the biggest massacre in the Old Continent after World War II (the ‘record’ was beaten in the east of Ukraine where we all know who the aggressor is), however V. Putin had the audacity to announce in December that once the border control between Russia and separatist Donetsk and Luhansk ‘People’s Republics’ be given to Ukraine, we can expect a new case of Srebrenica. To tell the truth, Moscow has never officially considered massacre in Srebrenica as genocide but ‘just’ a war crime.
One of the latest news from the ‘front’ of virtual reality. On 16 July the Cyber Safety Agencies of Great Britain (GB) and Canada accused Russian hackers of attacking developers of COVID-19 vaccine, trying to steal them. For instance, the University of Oxford is considered globally leading in this area and it announced about the first attempts to break in already in April. Successfully working without any scruples and being attacked by the well known group APT 29 (also known as Cozy Bear and since 2014), which is being associated with the Main Intelligence Directorate of Russia by Special Service of the United States.
According to the results of the investigation of the disinformation spread by Russia within 6 years published on the internal portal , ‘the Kremlin Trolls’ posted over 300 fake websites, from which fake news attacked enemies of Moscow, such as the World Anti-Doping Agency, the former candidate to the US President Hillary Clinton, government of Ukraine…
These are secrets of Polichinelle and certain habits that make prick up our ears when the leader of Russia gets involved in assumptions about the former Soviet republics that were ungrateful and took lands given as a gift or when Russian politicians teach neighbour countries how to ‘live’. This enthusiasm is uncontrolled. As the American military diplomat Tom Wofford noted the diplomatic measures and methods would not be enough to resist the pressure. We have to be strong and continue working.
